The Project
Using Data to Predict and Reduce Healthcare No-Shows
Missed medical appointments — commonly referred to as “no-shows” — represent a significant operational challenge for healthcare institutions. When patients fail to attend scheduled consultations or exams, clinical resources remain unused, waiting lists grow, and care delivery becomes less efficient.
Healthcare providers increasingly rely on data and analytics to better understand and predict these situations.
In collaboration with healthcare stakeholders, DevScope has been working on data-driven approaches to identify patterns associated with missed appointments and support healthcare teams in anticipating potential no-shows.
By analyzing historical scheduling data and contextual variables, it becomes possible to estimate the likelihood of a patient missing an appointment. These insights can help healthcare organizations:
- • improve planning and resource allocation
- • reduce unused clinical capacity
- • optimize appointment scheduling
- • support better patient access to care
This work reflects how data and advanced analytics can move beyond experimentation and deliver real operational value in healthcare systems, aligning with the broader goal of making healthcare services more efficient, responsive, and patient-centered.
